The Left-Handed Deliverer

This morning we’re going to take a little time to look at one of the minor heroes from the Old Testament, a minor hero in terms of the overall scope of the Bible, but to the Israelites of his time he was very important to them as well as to Jehovah. We turn to a remarkable passage — Judges 3:12-30 — the story of Ehud, a left-handed deliverer who was raised up by God to rescue Israel. This story is rich with themes of sin and bondage, crying out for deliverance, weakness and unlikely victory. It reminds us that   God often works in ways we don’t expect , through people we wouldn’t first pick — so that the glory goes to Him.        We don’t often hear sermons about Ehud, in fact I don’t believe I’ve ever heard one. Now Ehud was the second judge of Israel in about the year 1320 BC and he is mentioned about 12 times in the Bible principally in Judges 3:12-30 which will be our main scripture reference this morning, and ...

Just Do It!

We’ve all experienced times when we were confronted with tasks we felt were impossible. How did we approach such undertakings? Did you procrastinate? Did you turn away, give up or say no to the endeavor? Or… did you face the problems head on and deal with it or accomplish your goal? Years ago a popular shoe company created a slogan which you are all likely familiar with. Some of these men hesitated at first but in the end they dove into their enterprises and did some amazing things for the Lord. They were men who “Just did it!” NOAH        First up we find a man in Genesis who Jehovah found to be a righteous man,  a blameless man , who was faithful to God. We pick up the story of Noah in Genesis 6. We’ll be looking at verses 9-22 9  This is the account...

Speak as though God is listening... because he is!

This morning, I would like to speak on a topic which some who know me might say is my topic of choice to talk on from a soap box, in fact of all the things I write about it would have to be this topic that I write about the most. That topic is “Our speech,” and if I were to title this message it would be “Speak as though God were listening” - because he is.       I think of how Jesus would act and react to the world we live in if he were physically walking the earth among us today. My thoughts turned to Galations 3:28 where we read:      “There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus”     I believe Christ would be so very disappointed in us, (and by us I mean mankind) both in the world and in some cases with some in the church. Christ would by disappointed in how we feed the evil of this world with our talk about politics, race and soci...
